The Invisible Enemy

Radon gas is vicious. You can’t see it, smell it or taste it. It’s the invisible enemy. But why is it so evil and where is it?

Quite simply, it is a cancer-causing radioactive gas. It affects homes and water. It is found to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. The costs from Radon-induced lung cancer treatments for the United States are over $2 billion dollars every year. The EPA’s recommended action level for radon level exposure is 4 piCi/L. A home with this much exposure is more than 35 times at risk “than the Nuclear Regulatory Commission would allow if that family was standing next to the fence of a radioactive waste site”.

So where is this most common? The Midwest is at the highest potential risk for Radon exposure with the predicted average indoor radon level being greater than 4pCi/L. In particular, Minnesota, North Dakota and Iowa are in particular danger with over 50% of their homes being affected. Radon is emitted through porous soil and is found to be in higher concentrations in different regions, especially the Midwest.

Today, any home can be treated and fixed. Radon gas can be eliminated, but the only way to know if your home needs to be treated is to conduct a test. Regardless of your location, testing and treatment is easy and necessary. Take action and call the Crew for a home inspection: 605-359-0461 or visit our website at www.radoncrew.com.
